Shine On AwardShine On Award

Thank you Reviews with Andrea for nominating me for The Shine On Award!

This award is for the blogs that shine, make you feel good and are inspiring to the reader.

Here are the rules of the award:
1. Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.
2. Acknowledge that blogger on your blog, and link back.
3. Share seven random, interesting things about yourself.
4. Nominate up to 15 bloggers for the Shine On Award, provide a link to their blogs in your post, and notify them on their blogs.

Seven Random Things About Me:

1. A few days after I started writing The Patron Saint of Dogs a friend was in dire need of a place for his dog to live. A few hours later I picked up Boxer, a Golden Retriever, who arrived just when I needed inspiration for the book!

2. Chapter 1 of The Patron Saint of Dogs was written at The Homestead in Baie d’Espoir, Newfoundland when we brought my father’s ashes home for burial.

3. I was the co-founder and “Thread Constant” of the GWN (The Great White North), a message board group of rabid fans of the tv show LOST. I hosted a convention for our members at my home in 2004 and people flew/drove in from Switzerland, Scotland, Saskatchewan, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Texas, along with a number  living in the Greater Toronto Area, to attend. It was amazing to finally meet them all and we had a riot watching the show together.

4. My first memory from childhood is of my uncle coming in late one night, waking me up and giving me an orange kitten. I named her Pookie and she became one in a series of orange kittens I had, all named Pookie, many of whom succumbed to road fatalities. I curse the invention of cars.

5. Many of the dogs and cats in this story are reincarnations of pets I sat, cared for or tried to help, when I spent 11 years running my dog walking and pet sitting business, called Dog Gone It! All of the people and the plot of TPSOD are fictional.

6. The story of Bruiser, the Newfoundland in Chapter 3, is based on the true story of a former co-worker, Jackie E, who told me she knocked on her neighbour’s door when she was 7 and asked for his dog because she thought he was lonely, for he was always tied up and alone outside.

7. I spent over ten years writing The Patron Saint of Dogs in my head before I finally put it on paper. When my subconscious insisted the day had come to  get it out of my head and preserved on paper, I was able to write the outline in 1 1/2 hours. I can write a chapter in a day, although the subsequent edits take about a week!

quetion in which I’d like to ask if you do noot mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before
writing. I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my
ideas out there. I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems lie
thee first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just
trying to figure out how to begin. Anyy ideas or tips?
